Biography
Giannis Ploutarchos is one of the most renowned, commercially successful and beloved Greek singers. The first time he sang professionally was in a small nightclub in Korydallos, a little suburb of Athens and gradually he performed next to singers such as Yiannis Poulopoulos, Rita Sakellariou, Themis Adamantides and Stelios Rokkos. His career in discography began in 1998 with a CD single entitled by his name. One and a half months later, he released his first full-length album, “Mono Esy”, with contains the song “Enas Theos” which became a timeless success. He then participated in Constantina’s album with the duet “H Kardia Mou Einai Zalismeni” and in Stelios Dionysious’s album with the duet “Orestiada”. In 2000, he released the album “Ypirchan Orkoi”, that gave a huge boost to his career and made him even more famous, setting the beginning of his great success. All of his albums have gained multi-platinum, platinum and gold certifications and have won music awards, with almost all of their songs standing out in the audience’s preferences and topped the radio airplay. Among others, at the ARION Music Awards 2002, he won five awards, the most of each other artist (best laiko album, best album of the year, best video clip, best singer in laiko and best singer of the year) for the album “Mikres Fotografies”, while the 3xplatinum albums “Den Einai O Erotas… Paidi Tis Logikis” and “Paei Ligos Kairos” were re-released with bonus songs and DVDs. His albums are always a commercial success and they are making records sales, as did in 2019 the album “Tragoydia Akatallila”, which made direct entry to the no1 of the psychical album sales chart, while it was certified platinum, released in collectible vinyl and was the highest selling album of the year. He has collaborated with many and renowned songwriters, releasing countless hits. On February 2011, he took part in the Sanremo Music Festival alongside Italian renowned artist Albano Carrisi and Greek operatic soprano Dimitra Theodossiou and won the first place performing the famous chorus piece titled “Va, pensiero” from the opera “Nabucco” written by Giuseppe Verdi. That was the first time a Greek singer has ever performed at Sanremo Music Festival. A few months before, Giannis Ploutarhos and Albano Carrisi released a joint album titled “Dio Fones Mia Psihi” which sold over 160,000 copies in the first day of the release and, overall, gained a 15xplatinum certification. In 2004 he sang with other Greek artists the popular song “An Thimitheis T’ Oneiro Mou” by Mikis Theodorakis, which was the soundtrack of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. His live performances are always sold out. In 2004 he broke the records for continuous appearances at a venue, appearing at club “Posidonio” as part of a concert series for one whole calendar year without interruption. In 2014 he performed at the “Pallas Theater” of Athens with the established Greek composer Mimis Plessas. He has on stage collaborations with artists such as Vassilis Karras, Nikos Economopoulos, Melina Aslanidou and Peggy Zina, while has toured extensively in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.
