Despina Vandi is one of the most successful and multi-talented showwomen in Greece, with her career transcending the country’s borders. Her debut album was “Gela Mou”, in 1994, which, among others, contains her first duet, “To Adieksodo” with Yiannis Parios. In the same year, after many live appearances in Thessaloniki, she made her first appearance in Athens, next to Vasilis Karras. In 1997 she began her multi-year collaboration with the songwriter Phoebus, giving the public dozens of great hits. All of her albums have been commercially successful, with sales exceeding 1 million copies, multi-platinum, platinum and gold nominations and timeless hits. In 2000 she released “Ypofero”, which became 6 times platinum and was awarded as the most successful single of all time in Greece by Richard Branson of Virgin Megastores in London. At the 2002 World Music Awards, she was awarded as the “Best Selling Greek Artist” and she set a millestone, as she became the first Greek artist to receive the award. Her first three international singles, “Gia” (2003), “Opa Opa” (2004) and “Come Along Now” (2005) entered the charts around the world. Her first internationally distributed albums are named after the songs “Gia” and “Come Along Now”. “Gia” and “Opa Opa” have both charted on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and Hot Dance Airplay charts, with “Gia” reaching number 1 for 2 weeks on the latter and “Opa Opa” reaching number 3 on the Hot Dance Radio Airplay of Billboard. Also, “Gia” reached number 1 at the Club Charts of Music Week in Great Britain and became the number 1 dance song of the year in USA, Germany, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Italy, France, Spain, Turkey, Cyprus, Sweden and Australia. Also, her singles have been remixed by famous international DJs and producers. Being one of the stunning Greek performers, she has given unprecedented and impressive shows, while her concerts, both in Greece and abroad, are always sold out. Also, she has won many awards in Greece and Cyrpus as artist of thee year, as well as for her songs and music videos. In December 2016 and for two consecutive seasons, Despina Vandi starred in the Greek version of the musical “Mamma Mia!”, which surpassed the 300 performances and set a tickets’ record. In the summer of 2019, she starred in another sold old out theatrical success, “To Diko Mas Cinema”. Despina Vandi has also a remarkable TV presence. In 1999 she appeared in one of the most successful TV series, “Dyo Ksenoi”, in 2013 – 2014 she was one of the four artists/coaches in the Greek version of “The Voice”, in 2016 she was a coach in “Rising Star” and in 2020 one of the judges in the singing contest “Just The 2 Of Us”. Also, in 2016, she was the host of Madwalk, the biggest fashion music live show in Greece, while in 2013 and 2014 she presented the Greek national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, with George Kapoutzidis. In March 2019, she premiered her own travel TV show “My Greece”, while she was also the presenter of “The X Factor”.
