
Kaiti Garbi
Kaiti Garbi is one of the most established, beloved, award-winning and timeless Greek singers. Her career has spanned over 30 years with over 1.5 million records sold in Greece and abroad, while her discography is marked by several multi-platinum, platinum and gold releases. She began her singing career with her younger sister, Liana, as the “Garbi Sisters” when she was 15 years old and Liana 13 and they are most remembered for the backing vocals they provided at Yannis Floriniotis’s performances in the early eighties. Breaking away from the duo with her sister Liana, in 1987 Kaiti Garbi recorded her first solo song “Sain Trope”, which was included in a compilation album called “Ta Deka Dekaria”. With the success of the first album, the second volume was released in 1989 which featured her in two new songs, titled “Ah, Afto Mou Aresei” and “Zo Na S Agapo”. Her debut personal album, titled “Prova” was released in 1989. In 1990 and 1991 she released her second and third studio albums, “Gyalia Karfia” and “Entalma Silepseos”, which fared well and allowed her to rise in the ranks of the Greek music scene. From then until today, she has been making multi-platinum, platinum and gold records, while he has collaborated with most Greek composers on songs that have become great and timeless hits. Among other, she is the one who discovered the talent of Phoebus, one of the most successful Greek songwriters, with his first songs being included in the album “Os Ton Paradiso” (1993), while the album “Evaisthisies” became multi-platinum and is one of the greatest hits of the Greek music industry of all times, the album “Xristougenna Me Tin Kaiti” is the only Greek Christmas album that went gold and the multi-platinum album “To Kati” remains one of the best selling albums of the 2000s. On September 2019 she celebrated her 30 years in discography with a big sold-out concert at the Katrakio Theater in Nikaia, which was attended by about 6,000 spectators. She was joined on stage by fellow artists Giorgos Papadopoulos, Giorgos Sambanis, Eleni Foureira, Dionysis Schinas, Kostas Tournas and Antonis Remos, performing duets of some of her greatest hits, while her long time friend and well-known Greek artist Anna Vissi paid tribute to her in a video message screened during the concert. The concert was recorded and released, a few months later, on a triple live album and DVD. At the same time, she released some of her biggest hits in duets with some of the most renowned male Greek artists. She is the only Greek artist to have more than 30 duets on the discography, including “I Patrida Mou” with Antonis Vardis, “Stigmes” with Kostas Tournas, “Asymfonia Charaktiron” with Antonis Remos, “Kalytera Oi Dyo Mas” with Anna Vissi, “Epitelous” with Natassa Theodoridou, “Zisame” with Dionysis Schoinas, “Oute Leksi” with Vassilis Karras and “Tha Meinei Metaksy Mas” with Giorgos Tsalikis. In 1993, she participated in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Ellada, Hora Tou Fotos” and placed Greece 9th. Her performance is considered legendary due to the slitted blue dress she wore, while she holds the Eurovision record for the individual singer with the longest camera close-up, as the camera showed a focused close-up on her face for 43 seconds before cutting to a different angle. Her live performances are always sold-out. She has co-operated on stage with many and great singers, such as Dimitris Mitropanos, Paschalis Terzis, Giannis Parios, Pitsa Papadopoulou, Manolis Mitsias, Antipas, Tolis Voskopoulos, Vassilis Karras, Anna Vissi, Notis Sfakianakis, Giorgos Mazonakis, Sakis Rouvas, Dionysis Schoinas, Christos Dantis, Giorgos Sampanis, Giorgos Papadopoulos and Stella Kalli. She has also toured extensively abroad (Europe, America and Australia), while on May 1997 she performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York, becoming the first Greek female artist to do so. In 2007 she did the opening act at the concert of the internationally famous rock star Zucchero in Athens (Theatro Vrahon), while in 2012 he participated in the big and successful concert for the 20 years of Phoebus in the Greek discography, in OAKA. In 2013 she released an Italian album entitled “Buona Vita”, while her hit “M Eheis Arrostisei” was included in the international complication album “Al Bazaar” and she made the bilingual duet “Koita S Agapao” with Turkish superstar Burak Kut. In 2012 she presented an original musical project, singing live in the cinema, with her performances in “Odeon Kosmopolis” being sold out. In 2015-2016 she starred in the successful theatrical performance “80s The Musical”, while in 2007 she played a leading role in the popular TV series “7 Thanasimes Petheres”. Also, in 2006 she was a member of the jury of the talent show “Fame Story”. Also, she is the only Greek artist who launched his own emojis on social media, the so-called Kaitojis.
