Mando is one of the renowned and commercial Greek artists, who has charted her own unique course. She was born and raised in Athens by her jazz pianist father, Nikos Stamatopoulos and a classic soprano opera mother, Mary Apergi. From a young age she began to develop her talent and interest in music and was characterized as a “born musician”. At the age of four Mando could easily sing operatic arias, gospel and jazz music. Her parents, astonished by her musical capability, signed her with the National Conservatory for piano and music theory lessons. Meanwhile, she took up vocal training and dance lessons. At the age of ten, Mando began to teach herself how to play the guitar and various percussion instruments. Her dedication and passion quickly led her to compose her own melodies. Along with her school work, her music, and her English and French lessons, she performed in the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar”, under the direction of Mimis Plessas and Dimitris Malavetas. She has sung for various orchestras and as a member of various jazz groups and trios, working with music in all its textures: jazz, Greek, European, American, and Arabic. In 1981 she entered the discography, participating under the name Mandy in Motorcycle-Granny, in music and lyrics by Tzimis Panousis and in 1987 she participated in the collection “Ta 10 Dekaria”, performing the songs “Sta Zesta Feggaria” (adaptation of “Land of 1000 Dances “) and “To Gramma” (adaptation of “The Letter”). Her first solo album, entitled “Dos Mou Ena Fili… Ayto To Kalokairi” was released in 1989 and, since then, Manto has not stopped giving dozens of hits, such as “Stoiximatizo”, “Esy”, “Danika”, “Emeis” a duet with Antonis Remos, “Dos Mou Logo Na Sotho”, Fylakise Me”, “Ayto To Kalokairi”, Rouxo Daniko”, “Timorise Me”, duet “Light / Ask” with the Turkish singer Sertab Erener, “Aisthisis” and “Fotia Sta Prepei”. Inaugurating her collaboration with Panik, she released the album “Vradines Diadromes” in December 2021. Mando has toured and collaborated with many established artists such as Marinella, Dimitris Mitropanos, Tolis Voskopoulos, Paschalis Terzis, Christos Nikolopoulos and Dimitra Galani, while her international tours have included cities such as Los Angeles, London, Paris, Toronto, Montreal, New York, and Chicago. Mando composes mainly on her guitar. Among others, she penned the track “Where You Are” for Jessica Simpson, which has been chosen as the theme song to 20th century Fox’s film production titled “Here on Earth” and has sold more than one million copies. Another international collaboration is that with Jean Michel Jarre on one of his own tracks and sung by Mando in Greek with the title “Zoi” (Life). Her television presence is equally rich, such as in the shows “Your Face Sounds Familiar” and “Just The 2 Of Us”, while in 2003 she represented Greece at Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Never Let You Go”. She teaches vocal and orthophony at the Fakana Art Conservatory and has founded the Children’s Musical Theater Academy (CMTA).
